Making coconut oil

Coconut oil has a variety of uses and health benefits, it can be used on both hair and skin, as well as in cooking and baking.Making coconut oil is cheaper but more stressful and time consuming than getting some from the store but it’s definitely healthier.If you follow these simple steps, you should have your pure virgin coconut oil.Items needed:Two medium sized coconutsWaterBlenderStrainer or cheeseclothA handkerchief or small clothBowlsA potStep 1- Break the coconuts using a stone or by just hitting it really hard against a stone wall.Step 2- Remove the coconut meat with a knife or sturdy metal spoon.Making coconut oilStep 3- Grate the coconutsStep 4- Put the grated coconut meat into a blender, add some water (hot or cold); stop when the blender is half full then blend till the pieces are fine (You can do it in two batches).Step 5- Strain using a cheesecloth or strainer. Squeeze out the extra water so you have everything.Step 6- Pour the extract into a pot and boil till all the water has evaporated and the cream has separated from the oil and turned brown. Boiling can take over an hour so exercise patience and try to use as little water as possible.Step 7- Wait for it cool then using a handkerchief strain the oil into a container. Don’t forget to squeeze out the extra oil from the cream.-OR-Stop at step five then leave it to sit for a few hours till the cream rises to the top then refrigerate to harden the cream. Cut out the hardened cream, transfer it to a pot then simmer for sometime (about 30 minutes) stirring often till the cream separates from the oil and turns brown. Then continue from step seven.Note:You should have at least 60ml of oil at the end of the exercise.The browned cream is edible so you also have a snack for your trouble *wink*.Goodluck!
