Yahoo To Start Notifying Users About Suspected State Sponsored Hacking

Few days ago, Twitter issued warnings to a number of its users that their account may have been hacked by state sponsored actors. Yahoo has also decided to upgrade its security level by notifying its users on any suspected hack attacks by a state-sponsored actor. Bob Lord included in his statements that:

Yahoo will now notify you if we strongly suspect that your account may have been targeted by a state-sponsored actor

Yahoo’s Chief Information Security Officer also added in a post that:

We’ll provide these specific notifications so that our users can take appropriate measures to protect their accounts and devices in light of these sophisticated attacks

Some of the necessary actions the company suggests their users to take is to turn their account key or two-step verification, choosing a strong password and distinctive password, review recent activity in account settings and also check account recovery info as well s mail forwarding and reply to settings.

But it doesn’t really mean that receiving such notification from yahoo really mean your account has been hacked but the company is only trying to take necessary measures to avoid such attack.
