7 Ways to Avoid Breast Sagging as a Young Woman

Sagging or drooping of breasts is a natural, inevitable process that happens to all women at some point, except to women with fairly small breasts. Breasts can start drooping a little at any age, because they do NOT have muscles in them. They have ligaments and connective tissue. No other part of the body is more affected by the force of gravity than the breasts.

When the gravity pulls the breasts down, those ligaments and the skin can stretch, and so the breast then droops. This depends on the elasticity of your skin and of your ligaments, as determined by your genes and diet, and also on normal aging processes. Obviously large breasts will sag easier since the gravity is pulling them down more. When breasts bounce during active sports, such as tennis, those ligaments can also be stretched or even torn. A good sports bra can minimize that effect, and is recommendable.

While many women find themselves with sagging breasts after childbirth/weaning and after menopause, quite many childless women also claim that they have “awfully” saggy breasts and wonder if that is normal, or if their breasts are sagging more than most women of their age.

Just keep in mind that sagging happens to all women sooner or later—except those with very small breasts. For some of us, it happens sooner, even without pregnancy. There are even many teens with drooping breasts. It is not that uncommon! Additionally, overweight women have some additional fat tissue in their breasts, which causes them to be heavier and therefore sag earlier than otherwise.

Women tend to be bothered by sagging because they feel it makes them less attractive. However, you might be surprised to learn that it is NOT a turn-off to many guys. We women may be overly preoccupied about something that isn’t nearly as much an issue with the opposite sex as we might think!

Below are 7 ways to avoid Breast sagging:

  1. Wear the correct Bra Size

Why are you squeezing your C-cups into a B-cup bra? If you’re going to wear one, it’s important to make sure it fits correctly. You probably think you already know your bra size, but if you do you’re in the minority. 80 percent of women are wearing the wrong size bra, because it’s so difficult to figure out how to buy one that fits! Since wearing an ill-fitting bra might cause extra sagging, go ahead and take your measurements so you can make sure your bras aren’t doing you more harm than good. Measure your bra size, find your band size, find your cup size, See if the cups adequately hold your breasts, Find the perfect fit when you try bras on, Make sure the band isn’t too loose, Make sure you’re wearing your bras correctly and Wear a sports bra when you exercise. Some experts say that wearing a bra that fits is the best way to prevent sagging.

  1. Try keep your weight stable

There are two places where fat is found in the breast. Seventy per cent of breast fat is mixed with the glands to form the main bulk of the bosom.

The rest of the fat is found in a layer of padding just under the skin. It’s this that tends to fluctuate in thickness as you gain and lose weight.

If this layer thickens dramatically and then thins out again it will permanently stretch the supporting skin, leading to a droopier chest.

One of the best things you can do for your breasts is to maintain a constant body weight for your height that’s within the recommended range.

  1. Go Braless

If at all possible, do NOT wear bras all the time. I know most people think that bras prevent sagging, but this is not totally true! For most of us, bra wearing can actually increase sagging!

Going braless can be freeing, and if you want to start wearing yours less, there are a few tricks that can help the process go smoothly – Put Pasties or Adhesives to use.braless

  1. Cut out Smoking

The skin on your chest is delicate, similar to the skin on your face. That means it’s easily impacted by chemicals in cigarettes that lead to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which give skin its youthful look and texture. When your skin loses elasticity, it will start to sag. Cut back on smoking cigarettes, or eliminate the habit altogether, to keep your breasts looking younger and perkier.

  1. Posture

Pay attention to your posture. Poor posture causes breasts to droop, while good posture lifts the breasts up. Look at your breasts in a mirror while you stand with poor posture and again while you stand with good posture and notice how much higher your breasts sit when you’re standing straight. Make sure your back is straight, your shoulders are back and your head is level. If you find it tiring to stand and sit with your back straight, improve your posture by strengthening your core muscles, including your abs and back

  1. Eat Healthy

Eat healthy and drink plenty of fluids to keep the connective tissue and skin healthy to help slow the signs of breast sagging. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables contains the antioxidants necessary for healthy skin, so eat dark vegetables and colorful fruits which are higher in antioxidant content. Fluids hydrate the skin and connective tissue, so drink at least six 8 oz. glasses of water a day. Eat plenty of vegetables, lean protein and whole grains and stay away from junk food to maintain your figure.

  1. Exercise

Walking for an hour or 30 minutes of aerobics every other day helps keep your metabolism up and your weight steady.

Wear a sports bra when you workout. Choose a racerback bra that offers support for your shoulders and back. Your breasts themselves are composed of fat, not muscle, but you can strengthen the muscles underneath your breasts to help them stand out a little more instead of sagging. These exercises (Push-ups, do pectoral flys, do lateral shoulder raises) might also give the impression that your breasts are slightly bigger. When you run without proper support, the breasts bounce in a figure of eight, causing wear and tear on the supporting ligaments.
