Akinseye oluwatofunmi popularly called ‘savvy’ by her team mates is the brain behind Savvy Magazine. She hails from Ondo state and was born on the 14th of October 1992.
The young and vibrant beauty is a graduate of Educational Management with Economics from the prestigious university of Ibadan. Tofunmi started Savvy Magazine at the age of 21 when she was in her third year in the University of Ibadan.
Savvy magazine was birthed on the 14th of December 2013…seems the entrepreneur has a thing with 14th day of every other month.
When asked what inspired her, she said: “I have always been a fan of young individuals who lived a distinct and purposeful life and I found it quite amazing that despite the fact that we have been failed by our elders (the leaders) there are still few of us young people who forge ahead to live an exemplary and meaningful life.”
Savvy magazine was created to celebrate, encourage and empower these young and savvy individuals from all spheres of life by creating a link between them and their audience.
In the space of two years Savvy magazine has successfully published four editions graced by important personalities such as Mr, MayD , Patoranking, Yemi Alade, Kunle Afolayan and Kehinde Bankole and has featured over 300 young and savvy individuals .
Tofunmi also organised a ground breaking event termed ‘savvy unscripted ‘ which was a live interview with a celebrity to enable young people learn from their pains and gains which had over 1000 youths in attendance
With endorsements from celebrities such as Alibaba, Gbenga Adeyinka, Basket mouth, patoranking, yemi alade, kiss Daniel, Simi, Adekunle gold , vjadams, kunle afolayan, Joseph Benjamin and lots more, Savvy magazine currently serve as media partners to MTN and have covered various events.
One the journey so far, she says it has been quite an interesting and challenging path. “Finding the right idea for a start-up is tough. Some approach it analytically and figure out the technical aspects like market value etc. mine just started with passion and work to share with others which is certainly more fun and avails you the opportunity to count your losses and gains. It was really terrifying along the way when I realised how capital intensive what I had gotten myself into especially with the cliché that only rich kids venture into print media and I am from an average family who don’t even have an idea of print media . I started the magazine oblivious of so much muddles from entrepreneurship especially the financial constraint as I had no major sponsor all I had was the ‘DRIVE AND DREAM ‘ which has sustained me till now.”
Akinseye oluwatofunmi is currently a volunteer with the Global shapers community Ibadan hub (world economic forum initiative) and work under some capacity with Tedx bodija.
