Two Poems by Adediran Olusade

Say It

Hold me closer to hear them
Make me feel lost as I do
Entrench the hollow
Let's go deeper, for in our hands
The liquor to toast to truth is.

My soul wants to hear it
The words of the hearty craver
My cognoscente,
I want to learn and hear from you
Tell me, I want to hear

I cover the distance
To brisk us till night falls
To make you see me
As translucent as the crystal

Tingle my ears with it
They won't get tired of hearing it
Suffuse on me
The ecstasy of intense pleasure

Magical and absorbing
Clutched within my heart
Is the laconic utterance of you.
Just say it.
The hunger for this is timeless.
My phoenix

For some moment, I went down
Not for the throne or the crown
Down the aisle of mystery
On a broad road so tilty

Into the shambles of no mercy
Dying without even knowing
Choked with the flame of love
Enlaced with a cussing

An intrinsic cataclysm
No added lenity or euphemism
So uncalled for but expected
When all fell, I fidgeted.

I gnawed through the pains
It ended in fears and tears
All failed but he did not
I died but he came and fought

His blazing eyes
aroused the cries
But his love mended the ways
From the dim to the colourful rays

I thought I was dying
I faltered, he came rising
Even when I died,
I couldn't have died
The old became new
It never finished
He was my phoenix.
