Love Literati Contest: ’14 Reasons, 14 Days’ by Iteoluwakishi

“I love you.

Insanely intense. Have you ever been in love like this before? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. Horrible isn’t it? Because this is exactly how I feel – Messed up!

Or how else would I define loving you?”

Even as I write these words, I am baffled at how much I realise my heart beats for you in a language I don’t fully understand.

It’s probably because you’re the One

Love

Metaphors and hyperboles can not define the intensity that rumbles in my cores when I whisper your name and it’s why I want it to just be the Two of us

I mean, I love you to the point where being around you is sort of wonderful and painful all at the same time

If I could make Three wishes, they’d all be for you

Love

When you walk into the room, without even meaning to, my mouth becomes a cathedral of white teeth.

My smile turns itself into a choir of fire flies.

When you kiss me, scents of you obliterate how terrified I am of everything wrong with my life

I see you somewhere in my smile when I look in the mirror

I hear your voice in my laughter when my mother teases me about you

Even after Four years it’ll still be about you

Love

If you had wings, I’d be your wind

If my heart was dusted for fingerprints, only yours would be found

If you were a boat, I’d be your water

If you were a cloud, I’d be your rain

If you were a seed, I’d be your soil

If you were the sun,I’d be your orbit

If you were water, I’d be your cup

I’d let you pour yourself into me and not let a drop of you spill on the floor

Love

I’d scream all Five love languages to you on a roof

Love

You are magic. Pure and beautiful

Crushingly so

You look like the rest of my life with you.

Imperfect, because true love is never perfect

You are an ocean – an ocean created to love deeply and vastly and endlessly.

You swallow my flaws like a vessel and create a prison for my demons with your ribcage

Even my sixth sense attests to this

Love

Like a book, you have memorised my table of content

And with the hope of finding errors, you read every word just so we can both have something to work on.

Because aren’t we all unfinished? Don’t we all need editing? Aren’t we all waiting to be read by someone? Praying that they’ll tell us that we make sense?

Seven days a week, I’d always be yours

Love

You were a risk, a mystery, and the most certain thing I’d ever known.

You are, always were, worth coming apart for.

I have no desire to watch you from behind a glass

I’d walk Eight miles to see you

Love

You let your seeds grow into a tree and in the process, I fell in love with your roots

And the tree, with branches for arms, you’ve let their leaves whisper secrets into my being

And your leaves do not forget to caress gestures into my palm

Your bark flows with pure juices as it grows around the trunks and I get drunk daily

I’d need a change of address because I’m high and on cloud Nine

Loving you is my reality, something way better than my dream

Loving you is an art because there’s nothing more truly artistic than being in love with someone who is a Ten

There is never a time or place for true love.

It happens accidentally,

In a heartbeat,

In a single flashing, throbbing moment of the Eleventh hour

Love does not see with the eyes, it yearns with the mind,

We both are a little weird

And life is a little weird

And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness — and call it love —true love

This isn’t the Twelfth moment of cliché

If I had a flower for every time I thought of you

I could walk through my garden Thirteen times a day, forever

Love

With you, intimacy colours my voice

Even ‘hello’ sounds a lot like come here

Every mouth you’ve ever kissed was just practice

Every eyes you’ve ever looked into has no depth like mine

All the bodies you’ve ever undressed and melted into, they were preparing you for me

I was the only one made for you

And on the Fourteenth day of the second month, when fire meets Gasoline, when the clock strikes 12, when the ice thaws,

I’ll say over and again – I. Love. You

Your ability to piece words together to form a state of mind, capture a feeling amd tell a story is what sets you apart and defines you as an artist. This right here, feels and reads like a tapestry of words, woven with the highs, lows and elasticity of the heart to create a pictorial vision of love. Well done, you get better with each stroke of your pen. Your mind is one hell of a place. How its capable of birthing such beauty is nothing short of a gift.
