Akwa Ibom warns people of the state against toxic meat called ‘Ikpa Ebola”

The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has warned people of the state against the sale and consumption of toxic meat called ‘Ikpa Ebola’ which it says can cause cancer and liver problems.

According to DailyTrust, The meat is said to be an imported meat. It also says those behind the importation of the meat would be tracked down and arrested. The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Godwin Afangideh, who was represented by the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr, Obot Obot told newsmen over the weekend at a News conference in Uyo that the state government had taken measures to rid markets of the poisonous meat.

He said that the ministry had embarked on sensitization campaigns in markets, warning the public against consumption of the meat.

He said: ‘The skin meat which is five times thicker than ordinary skin meat is injected with a toxic substance called formalin for preservation. Formalin is capable of causing cancer and liver problems and other diseases’, he said.

He advised the public to watch what they eat or drink, stressing that a likely cause of most untimely deaths could be the consumption of toxic food or drinks.
