I have come to realise that most people in relationships do want to make their relationship work but do not know how to. Relationships are work. That is a fact. Your relationship needs as much focus and attention as you give any other important project at work or at school. If you are a social media type of person like I am, the term ‘Couple Goals’ (#coupleGoals) will not be alien to you.

When we see couples we admire (even though social media is mostly the best part of our lives on display…sometimes exaggerated), we go all ‘aww…couple goals’ on them. Is this wrong? Never. However, I also have noticed that we are happy to work towards our entrepreneurial goals, career goals, fitness goals and other goals there can be but when it comes to our relationship goals, we do not pay enough attention.

We neglect our relationship goals unconsciously and make the same mistake over and over again. it is easy for us to take our partners for granted if we do not consciously make efforts to keep the fire burning or to show your partner how pretty they sit somewhere at the top of our priority lists.

Think about it, what have you done for your partner lately? Like I mentioned earlier, most people in relationships do want to make it work but do not know how to. I am not going to give you a list of how to maintain the burning passion in your relationships, rather, I will be sharing romantic ideas for couples with you. I know we are busy but we must make out time to spend with our significant other.

From the conversations I had with 3 people over the weekend, it became clear that some men do not know what a date is, how important it is for their relationship and the many different types of dates there are for a romantic couples, hence, I will be sharing few romantic ideas for couples.

Movie Dates

I guess this is the most popular kind of date in this part of the world. It is cliché right? But hey! It works and that is why it is cliché. Go see a movie with your partner. Try not to fight over the choice of movie and never make your partner feel like he or she is settling for a movie because you want to. I mean, we shouldn’t feel that way but we are human. So here is an idea: Write the movies showing at your date time on a piece of paper, close your eyes and pick one. If he is picking on this movie date then she is picking for the next one. Just have fun while at it.

Plan a picnic

I hope to plan a romantic picnic with my partner sometime soon. I have gone for family picnics but unfortunately, I have never been to a romantic picnic *sad face* but this is not about me. Whether you’re heading to a private beach or even just your backyard, put down a blanket, get a spread of yummy snacks, small chops, a bottle of wine, and you’ve got yourself a lovely date. If you’ve never done this, now’s the time. It is not old fashioned.

 

Go on a road trip

Pick a destination about four hours from where you live and just drive.

Sing Karaoke

For this, get ready to laugh a lot. While you are on your karaoke date, don’t forget to do a duet.

Shop for each other

Head to a store, set a budget, and pick out outfits for each other.

Go to a fancy bar and dress up

Get dressed up, go to a fancy bar, and try something off the exotic cocktails list.

Go to a Hotel

Yes, you have all the luxury at home but there is something special about spending nights in a hotel. Plan something romantic with the beautiful people working there, you don’t have to clean up after each other and a good way to just relax and gist.

Take a Walk

This is one of my favorite and it costs absolutely nothing. Just go on a long walk holding hands. No destination needed, you have each other.

Go to the zoo

Got to the zoo admiring everything.

 

Go on a museum date.

Art! And staring at things instead of talking.

Visit resort centers and nature parks

This I don’t joke with. I cannot start mentioning all we have in this country and neighboring countries but this is a super valid idea. You should be adventurous.

 

Dinner Dates

Go to a lovely restaurant and spend some money.

 

Take classes together

Swimming class, fitness class, dancing class… do somethings tasking together

Go to a spa

It is fun, it is relaxing and necessary *side eye*

Go to the club.

Dress the part, Dance dirty and have a great time.

Go to a party together

Whether they’re your friends or mutual friends, either way, you get out of the house and into someone else’s free drinks and food.

Go to the beach.

Gorgeous water, lots of sun, and both of you are kind of naked!

Go see a play.

Asides movies, you can actually see good plays. Although the publicity isn’t as much as should be, you can consciously look out for them.

 

Go on a double date.

Take any of these dates and do that with two more people.

Cook a meal together

This is a lovely way to spend an evening together. It’s a chance to test out each other’s skills in the kitchen, as well as create something delicious together. Pick a somewhat tasking meal and see what comes out of it. No sex in the kitchen! Just cook! Side eye*

Massage

Home massages are wonderful, cheaper than going to the spa and so sexual. All you need is a towel and some oil! In addition, you’ll be getting massaged by your significant other, you won’t need to hide natural bodily functions from.

Cook for your partner

I know I said you can cook together but cooking for your partner and inviting them over to have lunch or dinner or taking it over to them is fun too, interesting and fulfilling.

Art Exhibition openings

I know this isn’t for everybody, but it is worth trying. Not only are these things usually free to attend, but they generally also provide you with finger foods. Sound like fun to me.

PS: To get the most out of these dates, you must be open and communicate with your partner. Talk about every and anything. Do not assume they know or that you have talked about it.
